Reading Reflection No. 3 - Assignment 27
I read Coco Chanel by Lisa Chaney.
- About the entrepreneur
- What surprised me the most about Coco Chanel was her past. When she was growing up she faced a lot of dark moments and it was not an easy childhood.
- What I admired the most was how hard she worked to achieve success and how she was not afraid to be bold, innovative or take risks.
- What I liked the least was her bad habits like her multiple affairs and her substance abuse.
- Coco Chanel did encounter failure, she received lots of rejections but she persisted until she found her way and found success.
- I think that Coco Chanel's perseverance was her greatest competency. She was able to overcome a lot of adversity and embrace success.
- I feel like the book explained a lot about her professional life but there were many gaps in her personal life. For example, I don't feel like I had good insight to a close relationship she had with someone.
- The two questions I would ask her would be
- Do you think that you would have found less adversities/rejections if you had started building a brand in the 21st century?
- I think that in the past it was hard for women to be successful entrepreneurs and today society embraces powerful women entrepreneurs.
- Do you think that your upbringing affected the way you built relationships as a grown up?
- Coco Chanel had a really rough childhood and sometimes that affects the way you interact with people
- I think that Coco Chanel's work philosophy was definitely hard work pays off. She worked hard and persevered and most importantly she did not give up. I think that this is important because we all experience failure at some point but if we work hard and don't give up it will pay off.
Hey Maria, I think you followed the instructions of this post very well and explained how you felt about the book. I think this is an interesting book from what you said about it and it is definitely smart to learn how a business that is so successful started up and how the creator now lives and their day to day life.

Hi Maria,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your reflection on Coco Chanel! The structure of your blog post was great and easy to read. I also really liked the questions that you would ask her. The adversities that she faced growing up made her stronger; they could’ve made her weaker and been her downfall, but I think she was able to use them to her benefit. I agree that her drive and willingness to work hard definitely helped her become so successful.
