Testing the Hypothesis Part 1 - Assignment 7

  1.  The opportunity: Starting a company that runs different errands for people. For many people running errands is a time consuming activity that they have to fit into their busy work schedules. They  need an alternative that will allow them to get the errand done without taking a lot of time out of the day to errand running.
  2. The Who-What-Why
    • Who: People that want to get an errand done but cannot
    • What: They are not able to dedicate time to run errands
    • Why: They have too busy of a schedule to run errands
  3. Testing the Who-What-Why
    • Testing the Who
      • The target demographic is intended to be busy working people. The demographic could be extended to older people that do not drive anymore or to anyone that does not have time to or want to run errands.
    • Testing the What
      • Not everyone in the who will want to pay another person to ru the errand. Another boundary could include the fact that people would not pay for a service to run a sensitive errand like taking money out of a bank account.
    • Testing the Why
      • Some people already count with auxiliary help with running errands whether it is with a spouse, an assistant, etc.
  4.  Interviews
    1. I interviewed Kirsten, a college student. She expressed that she goes to university from Monday-Friday and usually gets there around 7:30 am and leaves around 6:00 pm. She says that she relies on her mother to run time sensitive since it is hard for her to leave campus to run errands. She runs a few errands on weekends when she does not leave the city for the weekend. She said that she would use a service that would run errands for her.

    2. Eduardo, a 76 yr old man says that he cannot run errands anymore because he cannot drive. He will usually get his son to do them for him but sometimes he needs an errand done but his son cannot do it and has to fins some other way to get it done. He said that he would use a service that would run errands for him so that he would not have to rely on others to do them for him.

    3. I talked to Ana, my 47 yr old neighbor that has to run errand for her family and her parents. Ana says that she has a hard time running errands for her household and her parent's household. She works part-time and helps her family out with errands and takes her kids to after-school activities. She said the she manages to get the errands done but it is very stressful and exhausting to handle everything. She would love to have a service that would run weekly errands for her, it would take a big load off her shoulders.

    4. Kim is a high-school english teacher and says that errands are hard to run when she gets off work. She told me that she has a 1-1.5 hr commute to get back home after work, so running errands after work cannot take too much time because then she would get home really late and would not be able to spend time with her kids. She said that she and her husband would both use a service that would run errands for them.

    5. Monica just started a start up company and she does not have the budget to hire a person to run errands for the company. She says that a company that would run errands for the company such as deliver products, documents, etc would be essential to making the company run smoother. She would rely heavily on a service to run errands for her, and would definitely pay for this service. However, I would not use the service for bank related errands or sensitive topics like delivering contract or legal documents.
  5. Reflection:
    • After running the interviews, I learned that the demographics goes beyond the original busy working people that I originally saw the opportunity for. I also learned that not only individuals would use the service but companies would also use the service. I did confirm one of the boundaries, the service might not be used for running high priority/sensitive errands.
