Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2 - Assignment 9
Interviews
- Joseph: In his interview, Joseph said that he believed that the service would be a good idea but he would not use it personally or in the office. He said that he would not use it personally because he has a flexible schedule where he can modify his hours at work and when he has to run errand he lives and works close to a big shopping complex so it is not too time consuming. He would not use it at the office because the office has hired messengers and assistance that run important company errands.
- Charles: Charles says that he would not use it because he is a retired person and he enjoys running errands. Charles described errands as part of his routine. He also says that he is very particular about what he buys and how he does his errands and believes that a service would not get the errands done in a way that he would be satisfied enough to pay the service fee.
- Mirna: Mirna is a stay-at-home mother and does part-time consulting. She said that she would not pay for a service to run her errands because her schedule is still not busy enough to not have enough time to run errands. She personally likes to run errands and has time built into her day to run them.
- Sandra: Sandra is a college student and said that she would like to rely on a service like this to run her errands as she is a full time student but she has a limited budget. She feels like her budget is so tight that she rather run the errands herself and allot the money that she would have spent on something else, like paying for a day out with friends.
- Ariela: Ariela says that she does have a busy schedule but would not use the service unless it is super urgent. The reason for this is because she like to run errands, she enjoys running errands. She will usually run errands over the weekend and will take her mom with her.
Conclusions
Who: after talking to these five people that are similar to people described in the opportunity, I learned that they would fall outside the boundary of the opportunity. The people that fall outside the boundary have busy schedules, work, don't work, have time in their days or have specific routines. People that don't work usually build in time in their daily routines to run errands and some really enjoy running errands.
What: The opportunity differs from other existing services like food delivery or grocery delivery because those other services only allow people to order something from one place only while the new service would allow users to ask for items from different shops and errands (like sending something to someone else) to be done for them.
Why: The people outside the boundary seem like they would not use the service at all or often because they have time in their day or they do not want to pay for someone to do something for them when they can do it for free. There are also people and companies that do not need this service because they already count on someone to fulfill this need.
| Inside the Boundary | Outside the Boundary | |
| Who | The people that have the need are those who have really busy schedules and cannot fit errand running into their schedule. People who do not want to run errands themselves or do not have someone to do this for them are also people who share this need. | People that do not have this need are those who have time to run the errands, want to or have someone to run errands for them. |
| What | The need is for errands to be run when the person doesn't have time or doesn't want to run the errand. | There is no need for errands to be run for the individual either because they have time to run it themselves or they do not want to pay for someone to run the errand for them. |
| Why | The need exists because people do not have the time to run errands or do not want to run errands. | People do not have this need because people enjoy running errands, have time to run errands, or already have someone to run errands for them. |
Hi Maria,
ReplyDeleteI liked that you got a diverse group for your interviews. They each have different needs and habits and I was surprised that there were some that actually enjoyed running errands as part of their day. I would have thought there would be more with this need. It seems like the information you gathered from the interviews helped refine your solution and who it a for quite a bit, good work!
Maria,
ReplyDeleteYour interviews included a lot of different perspectives. I think they definitely will have been able to give you enough insight that you can make your service a success. Your table looks great and I think it helps narrow down who is inside and outside of the boundary. Maybe because of the pandemic people who are immunocompromised or who are just scared of the public would benefit from your service!
